"We all looked at the same Intelligence"For the last five years Veterans Day has taken on a special significance for me. It has gone from being a somber day of reflection to a day of Complete Media Avoidance. And the reason for this is none other than the Chickenhawk-In-Chief, George (W. -for Whack-job) Bush. On his best days George's transparent lies and butchering of the English language leave me exhausted, embarrassed and angry. Veterans Day, however, causes me to double up on the blood pressure medication, and reach for the industrial-sized bottle of Sho-Shiku Bai Sake. And this Veterans Day was no exception. Once again, the syphillitic moron playing the role of President surrounded himself with sycophantic automatons decked out in full military regalia. And once again, the smirking piece of human excrement delivered a speech filled with lies, attacking those who would dare speak truth to unscrupulous power. George is obviously devoid of shame or conscience as his mere prescence dishonors all those who sacrificed for love of country. "...more
than 100 Democrats in the House and the Senate, who had access to
the same intelligence, voted to support removing Saddam Hussein
from power." Anyone paying attention knows this statement is utter bullshit. The truth about how and why America went to war against Iraq has been bubbling to the surface, and Bushies Reign has continued to falter as a direct result. And as the President's approval ratings plummet, the Republicans are back-pedalling away from Gee-Dubya faster than hyenas from a hungry lioness. Check
here for a great article written by Sy Hersh for The
New Yorker Magazine, documenting the creation of Intelligence to
back up the misadministration's case for war. Brilliant, inciteful,
and to the point. ************
There But For The Grace It could have happened. It had to happen. It happened sooner. Later. Nearer. Farther. It happened not to you.
You survived because you were the first. You survived because you were the last. Because you were alone. Because of people. Because you turned left. Because you turned right. Because rain fell. Because a shadow fell. Because sunny weather prevailed.
Luckily there was a wood. Luckily there were no trees. Luckily there was a rail, a hook, a beam, a brake, a frame, a bend, a millimeter, a second. Luckily a straw was floating on the surface.
Thanks to, because, and yet, in spite of. What would have happened had not a hand, a foot, a step, a hairsbreadth by sheer coincidence.
So you're here? Straight from a moment still ajar? The net had one eyehole, and you got through it? There's no end to my wonder, my silence. Listen how fast your heart beats in me. Wislawa Szymborska
