Hearts and Smarts
On
Saturday night Mrs. Bruin and I had the honor of attending a social
gathering of some of El Lay's finest political bloggers. The get-together
was hosted by Jane Hamsher of FiredogLake,
and took place at the Bossa Nova restaurant in Hollywood. John Amato
of Crooks&Liars
fame, along with his lovely friend Kayla, sat across from the little
missus and me. It was very cool to be able to put a face to one
of my favorite websites. Also in attendance were Steve and Pam from
SteveAudio,
Mark
Kleiman and Brad Friedman from BradBlog.
A splendid time was had by all!
Mark
Twain once said somethng along the lines of not wanting to join
any club that would accept him as a member. I had long subscribed
to Mr. Twain's way of thinking. But that was before the Bush junta
turned American values upside down, before the invasion and occupation
of a sovereign nation that was no threat to us, and before Torture
was legalizedl. Since then I have spent much of my time studying
the political landscape and have done my utmost to bring about regime
change in America.
With
America at the lowest point of Her history, I have taken solace
in the writings and creativity of a growing number of individuals
who share a common goal; the restoration of America's core values.
Those are with whom I seek conversation and comraderie.
The
people Mrs. Bruin and I broke bread with over the weekend gave me
a much needed shot of positive energy. America ain't dead yet. There's
still hope. And hope will remain as long as people like Jane, John,
Steve, Mark and Brad, continue in their efforts to communicate what's
gone wrong in America. I salute these folks. They are Patriots in
the truest sense of the word. And they all have this in common:
Big Hearts and lots of Smarts.
