The mere fact that a bill was presented in the Senate that would forbid the abuse of prisoners under the control of the US Military, is a pretty sickening commentary of just how far America has strayed from Her core values. But the fact that NINE Senators actually voted AGAINST the bill, I find truly disgusting. That ALL NINE of these heartless, soul-less, moral midgets are proud members of the Republican Party comes as no surprise. For your edification, here are the PRO-TORTURE NINE: Allard
(R-CO) Their mothers must be so proud! Mr. Bush has threatened to veto any curbing of his Power to Authorize abuse and torture. The question remains whether or not he's insane enough to actually go through with his threat. And if so, will the Senate override, or will they fold? Should prove to be an interesting week.

And then there's this It appears to me that Mr. Bush and his coterie of criminals are doing everything in their power to systematically undo the very basics of Democracy. With the elimination of Habeus Corpus (Padilla), and the gutting of Attorney-Client Privilege (Stewart), combined with Mr. Bush's recent Executive Order creating his own personal Secret Police (National Security Service), the writing is on the wall. Mr. Roberts' observation that the Police State is already in place cannot be disputed.

Shamelessly exploiting the tragedy of Hurricanes Rita & Katrina, Dubya and his oil cronies are pressuring Congress to hand his irreplaceable national treasure over the the Oil Industry. The best way to meet America's energy needs is to make America more energy efficient by,among other things, demanding higher mileage standards on the still exempt SUV's.NOT by allowing the oil industry to loot and despoil America's greatest wildlife sanctuary for what is estimated perhaps at best nine months supply of oil. Alaska's Arctic Refuge is home to polar bears, arctic wolves and thousands of caribou. Don't let Dubya and his greedy partners in crime destroy our children and grandchildren's heritage so they can rake in a few more dollars. Once destroyed, this national treasure will be forever lost to future generations. Support the National Resources Defense Council and send a message to your representatives in Congress. Dutch artist/scientist Theo Jansen has created a magical menagerie of some 30 "Standbeests" that live on the beach near his homein Delft. Jamsen has constructed his giant "creatures" with cardboard & cheap electrical tubing. Wind or compressed air stored in plastic bottles powers the Strandbeests legs & fins. The windpoweredStrandbeests actually stroll along under their own power. Jansen has a spiritual relationship with his creations.
