This Land Is Your Land.....

This Land Is My Land

In the next few weeks Congress will be voting on a budget bill that will allow oil drilling in one of America's last great, wild places.......Alaska's Arctic Refuge. Shamelessly exploiting the tragedy of Hurricanes Rita & Katrina, Dubya and his oil cronies are pressuring Congress to hand his irreplaceable national treasure over the the Oil Industry.

The best way to meet America's energy needs is to make America more energy efficient by,among other things, demanding higher mileage standards on the still exempt SUV's.NOT by allowing the oil industry to loot and despoil America's greatest wildlife sanctuary for what is estimated perhaps at best nine months supply of oil.

Alaska's Arctic Refuge is home to polar bears, arctic wolves and thousands of caribou. Don't let Dubya and his greedy partners in crime destroy our children and grandchildren's heritage so they can rake in a few more dollars. Once destroyed, this national treasure will be forever lost to future generations.

Support the National Resources Defense Council and send a message to your representatives in Congress. Just Say No!!!!

INTELLIGENT DESIGN?

The fanatical Christian Right apparently has all the
answers for what caused the Katrina tragedy.
Here's what Dubya's core supporters have to say:

"In my belief, God judged New Orleans for the sin of shedding innocent blood through abortion. Providence punishes national sins by national calamities. Greater divine judgement is coming upon America unless we repent of the sin of abortion".

Steve Lefemine- Columbia Christians for Life

"It seems clear that the prophetic times I have been expecting for decades have finally arrived. And even worse, it appears that the judgement of America has begun".

Hal Lindsey- Trinity Broadcasting

"This act of God destroyed a wicked city. From Girls Gone Wild to Southern decadence, New Orleans was a city that had its doors wide open to the public celebration of sin. We belive God is in control of the weather. The day Bourbon Street and the French Quarter was flooded was the day that 125,000 homosexuals were going to be celebrating sin in the streets....We're calling it an act of God".

Michael Marcavage- Repent America

"The whole parade of drunkeness, homosexuality and passions of the flesh was just washed away. If you believe in God, then you have no choice but to ask yourself whether God is making a statement".

Rev. Philip "Flip" Benham - Operation Save America

God has got to be shaking her head at these twisted, delusional people who are spewing such poison in Her name. If one was in a philosophical mood, one could consider the fact that Katrina, Rita & now Wilma are all striking the Gulf regions and Florida....long time Bush strongholds.Perhaps God IS making a statement.....could God be unhappy at the way Dubya and his greedy Big Big Industry cronies are continually looting and destroying Her beautiful planet in the name of the Almighty Dollar?

Exemplifying the Wonderous Spirit
of Human Imagination

Dutch artist/scientist Theo Jansen has created a magical menagerie of some 30 "Standbeests" that live on the beach near his homein Delft. Jamsen has constructed his giant "creatures" with cardboard & cheap electrical tubing. Wind or compressed air stored in plastic bottles powers the Strandbeests legs & fins. The windpoweredStrandbeests actually stroll along under their own power. Jansen has a spiritual relationship with his creations. "They need me to make them, and I need them to give me a place in the world."

At the Movies:

One of the year's best films is "Good Night and Good Luck". The story of famed broadcast journalist Edward R. Murrow's efforts to stop Senator Joe McCarthy's reign of terror is produced, written and directed to fine effect by actor George Clooney. Using striking black and white cinematography, the film incorporates the actual footage of McCarthy at the House of UnAmerican Activities hearings. David Strathairn plays Murrow in a performance that will probably garner him an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. Clooney plays Murrow's long time producer Fred Friendly, and Frank Langella, Robert Downey Jr. and Patricia Clark round out an outstanding cast. This film is especially timely today .....just substitute the word Communist with the word Terrorist and one can see how little we have learned from one of the ugliest chapters of America's history.
